Northridge is located in the Northwest part of the San Fernando Valley, is sheltered by the rustic Santa Susana Mountains. The Northridge Fashion Center is the largest shopping mall in The Valley and a growing number of medical, bio-med and technology industries are located in Northridge as well as Cal State University, Northridge, or CSUN, the third largest university in the state with approximately 30,000 students.

Income demographics are high, schools are excellent and crime rate is low, making Northridge an ideal community to live in and do business.

History

Northridge history that can be traced back to the 1700’s. Northridge was first named Zelzah, a biblical name meaning, Oasis because there was a spring of water that became the gathering place for local Indians. The spring is still there, at the intersection of Parthenia and Reseda Blvd, but it's been tapped off.

The fertile area became famous as a shipping point for produce such as nuts, olives and citrus, once the railroad was built. It later became known as a chicken raising area.

Benjamin Porter purchased the northern hilly area of Northridge in the late 1800’s. Wheat became a very popular crop on the Porter ranch.

The movie stars came and built horse ranches to hide away from the hectic Hollywood lifestyle of the time. Such notables as Carol Lombard, Robert Taylor, Barbara Stanwyck, Louella Parsons, Jack Oakie, Harry James, Clark Gable, Betty Grable, Montie Montana, and Mr. And Mrs. Zeppo Marx have lived in Northridge. The valley is still a place where all kinds of motion picture industry professionals like to call home.

The area has since gone through several name changes to its now popular name, Northridge. Water was brought to Southern California near the turn of the 20th Century. Northridge became and still is a part of the city of Los Angeles. All city services to Northridge homeowners are provided by the city of Los Angeles.
